Tim Hennessey


A long-time community servant as a legislator, dedicated attorney, trial attorney with the public defender's office from 1973 to 1992, and lifelong resident of Chester County, Tim Hennessey has represented the residents of the 26th District since 1993.

Rep. Hennessey serves the residents of the 26th Legislative District, which consists of the townships of East Coventry, East Nantmeal, East Vincent, Honey Brook, North Coventry, Valley, Wallace, Warwick, West Caln and West Nantmeal and the boroughs of Elverson, Honey Brook and Spring City. In Montgomery County, part of the borough of Pottstown, districts 1,2 and 7 and part o f division 01.

In the House, Hennessey serves as the Republican Chairman of the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee. In this role, Hennessey is pushing to streamline government services for older Pennsylvanians so that programs are more customer-friendly and less confusing. He also wants to ensure that the Lottery Fund remains solvent for future generations of older Pennsylvanians. Additionally, Hennessey serves on the House Transportation Committee.

During his tenure, Hennessey has authored legislation helping local governments tackle the problems of urban blight and abandoned property. He is the author of Act 64 of 1997, which waives the advertising and bidding requirements for the sale of township real property to nonprofit community development corporations, as well as the Weed and Seed Legislation, Act 146 of 2002. He also is a strong advocate for property tax relief and improving schools throughout the Commonwealth.

In addition to his committee work, Hennessey chairs the Steel and Irish caucuses. He also dedicates his time to the Local Tax Reform, Firefighters and Emergency Services and Solid Waste caucuses.

Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, Hennessey served as chairman of the Rotary Student Exchange Program and the Group Study Exchange. He was president of the Birthright of Pottstown and past president of the Alternatives Corporation of Pottstown, a shelter for abused or dependent children.

Hennessey is a 1965 graduate of St. Pius X High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s University in 1969, and his Juris Doctor degree in 1972 from Villanova University School of Law.

Hennessey currently resides in North Coventry Township. He and his wife, Carol, have three children, Katherine, Timothy and Elizabeth.
