Jim Fitzgerald is a newcomer to the political arena. Jim is a retired Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served the FBI for over 26 years, and was on active duty in the Marines for 10 years prior. During his nearly 40 years of service, Jim’s duties and leadership experience have included integrated tactical operation of Marine assets, complex counter-terrorism investigations, sensitive undercover operations and coordination of multi-jurisdictional law enforcement activities.
Mr. Fitzgerald graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on an NROTC scholarship and earned a Master of Science Degree in Management from Troy State University. Jim’s wife is a high school chemistry teacher who recently retired from Villa Maria Academy. They are the proud parents of four children, all of whom are successful products of West Chester Area Schools. Jim was an active supporter of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when his children were younger. He was also very active for approximately 15 years as a coach, age commissioner, and referee with the West Chester United Soccer Club.
If elected Sheriff, Jim intends to apply his many years of education, training, and law enforcement experience to improve upon the effectiveness, efficiency, and professional service provided by the Chester County Sheriff’s office. Having already worked closely with many of the police departments in the County, he is well equipped to coordinate among them and to maximize the contribution of the Sheriff’s office to the overall law enforcement effort in the County. As candidate for Sheriff, Jim seeks to extend his long career of service to country with service now focused upon the county where he has lived, volunteered, and raised his family over 27 years.
