Learn How to Run for Office in Chester County:

Beyond the Ballot is a new informational program that Chester County Voter Services will host on February 6th, 2025. There will be two sessions: 2 pm and 6 pm. Each session will last approximately two hours and cover topics such as elected officials' responsibilities, filing petitions, and campaign finance. Space is limited, so please sign up soon if you are interested. 

Learn the Next Step:

Once you decide to run for office, the next step is to determine how you are going to proceed. There are three methods by which a candidate can gain access to the November ballot:

  1. Gain access to a political party’s primary ballot through nomination petitions and winning that party’s nomination (Democrat and Republican) 

  2. Gain direct access to the November ballot by means of nomination papers, which are filed by minor political parties and political bodies (Independents) 

  3. Conduct a write-in campaign and winning the party’s nomination
