Lentz Missed Key Appropriations Committee Hearings to Attend Political Training School in DC

Lentz fails to do his job in Harrisburg so he can take political training in Washington, DC

DREXEL HILL, PA –Representative Bryan Lentz missed key House Appropriations Committee hearings in Harrisburg to travel to Washington, DC on February 24th and 25th as part of a trip that included a political training school for campaign candidates, the Meehan campaign revealed today.  The reason for Lentz’ failure to fulfill his duties in Harrisburg came to light following a story in Politico on the political training school Lentz took part in. (Source: Politico http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34045.html).

“Bryan Lentz needs to decide if his top priority is to be a candidate or to fulfill his responsibilities as an elected official,” said Bryan Kendro, campaign manager for the Meehan for Congress campaign.  “When you have legislators like Lentz skip out on their duties in Harrisburg to take political campaign classes in Washington, DC, its no wonder why voters are so cynical about our elected officials.  Voters expect legislators like Lentz to do the job they are being paid to do.”

On Wednesday, February 24th, while in Washington, DC, Bryan Lentz missed three hearings of the House Appropriations Committee – of which he is a member -- where officials from the Department of Aging, Department of Public Welfare, and Department of Insurance testified about budget cuts and their impacts on a variety of state programs, employers, social services providers, and Pennsylvania residents.

“With the political training class scheduled for Thursday, I’m not sure why he had to travel to Washington DC on Wednesday and miss these important budget hearings,” said Kendro.  “Perhaps he had to study up for his first day of school.  Bryan Lentz still has a responsibility to represent the people of Pennsylvania as a legislator, a duty he is ignoring to engage in campaign activities.  Pennsylvania doesn’t need another politician like Bryan Lentz in Washington, DC.”
Lentz was also absent from a fourth House Appropriations Committee hearing that week.  On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 23 Lentz missed another hearing where the leaders of the state-related universities – Penn State, Temple University, Lincoln University, and University of Pittsburgh – testified about the need to raise tuitions on college students unless the legislature increased funding over and above the Rendell Administration’s flat budget requests.
