As Attorney General, Tom Corbett has worked to lower barriers to affordable, quality health coverage. He has taken on insurance companies that improperly reject health insurance claims, and drug companies that illegally inflate the costs of prescription drugs or deceive the public about drug safety.
Tom Corbett supports common-sense reforms that increase access to health care for Pennsylvanians who need it. But he does not believe the federal government should do so through a massive, unconstitutional mandate which imposes unfunded liabilities on Pennsylvania and its citizens and small businesses.
That's why Tom has joined several other state Attorneys General in a lawsuit to protect Pennsylvania from a Congress that has overstepped its authority and threatened every citizen's individual liberties by regulating and penalizing private health care decisions.
The lawsuit is an attempt by the Attorneys General to fulfill their obligations to assert and defend the sovereignty of their respective states. The law's unfunded mandates commandeer the states as agents of the federal government's regulatory scheme at the states' own cost.
Through this healthcare mandate, the federal government rendered the 10th Amendment meaningless by ignoring limits on federal power, scrapping our constitutional separation of powers, and imposing financial burdens on the states and individual mandates on the citizens.
If this mandate is permitted to stand, no areas of individual decision-making are beyond the reach of the federal government.
Tom Corbett will not sit back and let the liberties of the citizens and businesses of Pennsylvania be stripped away by an unconstitutional power grab by the federal government.
